Foster Spotlight: Frenchie

Let’s reintroduce you to our special girl Frenchie, one of our longest staying residents here at the Hotel.

Frenchie is thriving in foster care thanks to the dedication of her wonderful foster family, but she’s still on the lookout for her forever home. To help anyone considering adopting her, we had a lovely chat with her foster mum to get answers to all the questions future adopters might have!

What makes Frenchie a good house guest?

“Frenchie is a lovely mix of calm and playful. Around the house she’s incredibly affectionate and prefers to be in the same room as her people, happily settling for cuddles on the sofa or snoozing on her bed. She’s fully toilet trained, sleeps through the night, and can be left alone for a few hours where she’s content to relax and wander rather than being crated.”

“She also has a fun, goofy side and will occasionally get the zoomies, hurdling the sofa and making everyone laugh. One of her funniest habits is collecting slippers and trainers and hoarding them in the living room — she never chews them, she just likes to gather them! She’s motivated by both food and toys, loves natural chews, and is a big fan of tug of war or “de-squeaking” cuddly toys. Overall, she’s a sweet, affectionate girl who settles well in the home and just enjoys being close to her people.”

Outside the house, we know Frenchie is working on her loose lead walking. Can you tell us how you think that is going?

“Frenchie is a strong girl on the lead and this is something she’s still working on. She has quite a high prey drive, so squirrels and birds can be very exciting for her which makes loose lead walking a bit of a work in progress. That said, she does better in quieter areas with less wildlife, and she really enjoys structured outlets like enclosed fields where she can have a good sniff and burn off energy before playtime.”

“She’s very playful with other dogs and would love a confident, playful companion who enjoys a bit of rough-and-tumble play. She’s great with people — sometimes a little nervous initially but she warms up quickly and becomes very affectionate. With consistency and the right environment, she has lots of potential to keep improving.”

Does Frenchie have any places in particular she likes to visit?

“Frenchie’s favourite place is wherever her favourite people are — she especially loves visiting her “grand-pawrents” for extra fuss and attention. She’s also quite the sun worshipper and will happily sunbathe when the weather allows.”

“She can be a little skittish in very busy environments, but she’s growing in confidence and is becoming more comfortable in quieter pubs and cafés. Most of all, she’s happiest somewhere she can relax with her people, have a cuddle, and then enjoy a play session when the mood strikes!”

A huge thank you to Frenchie’s foster mum for sharing that with us! We know her forever home is out there somewhere, if you think that might be you, take a look at Frenchie’s full rehoming requirements here.
