Education Visit: Noodle

Last month we had the pleasure of visiting Howell’s School Llandaff with our resident Noodle. Our aim for the session was to inspire the next generation of responsible dog owners.

During the assembly, we showed pupils how to safely approach and interact with a dog, while also talking about healthy treat choices (a topic Noodle was especially enthusiastic about!)

We were delighted to receive this lovely feedback from Amanda Lloyd-Jones, Year 5 class teacher at Howell’s School Llandaff:

“The educational assemblies delivered by the Rescue Hotel Team at Howell’s School Llandaff, were fantastic. The pupils loved meeting Noodle but also hearing all the important information about how to look after a dog and approach unknown dogs, how to volunteer and also support The Rescue Hotel.

Following the assemblies many conversations were sparked about wanting to adopt a dog and raising money to help The Rescue Hotel but the biggest topic of conversation was about how nice and fluffy the white rabbits’ ears as food! The girls felt sorry for the rabbits as their ears were given to the dogs! Interestingly this sparked amazing conversations about by-products and using parts of an animal after its main purpose was served. It also helped to reinforce again the importance of not using a by-product of the leather industry, raw hide!

Some of our pupils have already raised funds for The Rescue Hotel though running Charity stalls in May and the money will soon be sent on to the charity. A fantastic morning with the team (and Noodle) and we hope to have another assembly again soon.”

We thoroughly enjoy getting out into the community and sharing what The Rescue Hotel is all about, as we firmly believe that education is fundamental to nurturing a kinder future for dogs.

So, it was also lovely to hear some feedback from pupil’s Margot and Lily.

“Noodle is cute! I think he’ll find a home easily. The Rescue Hotel look after dogs carefully and make sure they have a good life. I didn’t know that people leave their dogs because they can’t look after them. It made me a bit sad to hear that but then also happy that the Rescue Hotel is there to save them. I enjoyed the visit and learned that I should never stroke a dog without checking with their owner.” (Margot age 5)

“Noodle was so adorable and reminded me of my dog, Maggie. I liked learning all about Rescue Hotel and I would love to rescue a dog from there when I am older. I learnt all about good treats and bad treats for dogs and what I could do to help dogs who need a home.” (Lily age 7)

We’re so pleased our visit sparked meaningful conversations that will help shape the next generation of responsible dog owners. We’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff and pupils of Howell’s School Llandaff for their warm welcome and enthusiasm throughout our visit.
