Every dog who arrives at Cardiff Dogs Home deserves the chance of a brighter future. For some, that future depends on urgent veterinary care.
That is why for the first time, The Rescue Hotel is hoping to take part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge, the UK’s largest match-funding campaign. During the campaign week, donations made through the Big Give platform can be matched pound for pound, meaning every gift has the potential to go twice as far for the dogs who need us most.
To make this possible, we are looking for businesses, workplaces and supporters to become pledgers by making a funding commitment in advance. These pledges help create the match-funding pot that will double public donations made to The Rescue Hotel’s campaign during the Big Give Christmas Challenge week, from 1st to 8th December 2026. The minimum pledge is £100 and payment is not requested until after the campaign finishes in December.
We must reach our £5,000 pledge target by August 28th 2026.
Why pledges matter
A pledge is a funding promise that means we can say yes to the treatment the dogs need, yes to the surgery that could change their life, and yes to giving them the best possible chance of finding a loving home.
Securing pledges in advance is also an essential part of our application. Without them, our application cannot move forward. These early commitments also help us unlock additional match funding from Big Give’s Charity Champions, increasing the overall value of the campaign.
If we succeed, this campaign has the potential to raise £20,000!
We are planning now for the dogs who will need us next year
Christmas may feel like a long way off, but our work does not stop. The dogs who will need us next year do not know that a campaign is being planned, or that people are already coming together to help them.
By supporting our Big Give campaign, you will help us continue to provide veterinary care for the residents of Cardiff Dogs Home. This year, lifesaving veterinary care is at the heart of our campaign, and we will be sharing the stories of the dogs who without The Rescue Hotel funding their treatment, may not have been able to spend this Christmas settled with their new families.

We’ll also keep all pledgers updated with an exclusive monthly newsletter, including behind-the-scenes updates from The Rescue Hotel.
