Last weekend, Emma the French Bulldog arrived at Cardiff Dogs Home requiring emergency surgery. She was suffering from a horrific rectal prolapse – the final section of her rectum had completely prolapsed and was protruding from her anus. We usually would show before and after photos of dogs that have undergone surgery, but the photos of her condition aren’t for people with weak stomachs!
This condition requires emergency surgery, and the Hotel’s vet and nurse came down to the Hotel on a Sunday to take care of her straight away. Emma needed to go under anaesthetic and into surgery to have the prolapse replaced and secured in place. After her operation she was feeling much better! She was then closely monitored by the staff during her recovery, and will shortly be looking for a new home.
Sadly, Emma was found as a stray and was not microchipped, so we have no idea of her history or how long she had been left to suffer with the prolapse. Left untreated, rectal prolapses can cause the tissue to die or become infected. Thanks to your support and donations, we can ensure that all stray and abandoned dogs in Cardiff receive the veterinary care they need.
