🐾 How It Works

Cardiff Dogs Home is run by Cardiff Council and takes in around 650 stray dogs from Cardiff and the surrounding areas each year. If a dog is not reclaimed by their owner within 7 days, they are placed for adoption.

That’s where we come in.

The Rescue Hotel is here to provide extra care, support, and funding to ensure every dog gets the very best chance at a healthy, happy life in a forever home.

💙 How We Help

🩺 Veterinary Support

We believe every dog deserves the best possible chance at a new life. That’s why we fund vital veterinary treatments for dogs staying at the home — from cherry eye surgery to complex cruciate ligament operations. In the past year alone, we funded 91 life-changing treatments.

This support means adopters don’t need to worry about unexpected medical bills — and dogs have a much better chance of finding a forever home.

✂️ Neutering Every Dog

To prevent any of our dogs from being used for breeding or having accidental litters, we cover the cost of neutering for every dog placed for adoption.

Thanks to a generous donor, we’ve been able to fully fund this initiative since 2023. If a dog is too young to be neutered at the time of adoption, adopters sign a neutering agreement and return to our vet when the dog is old enough — ensuring their healthy development is never compromised.

Last year we neutered 238 dogs.

🐕‍🦺 Behaviour Support

Many of our dogs have missed out on the basics in life. That’s why we fund a small team of behaviourists who work with the staff, volunteers, and dogs to help build confidence, teach essential life skills, and prepare each dog for life beyond the kennels.

🏗️ Kennel Upgrades

Kennels can be a stressful place for a dog. That’s why we launched a major project to raise £500,000 to transform Cardiff Dogs Home.

Work is now underway to replace the old, rusty kennels with safe, comfortable spaces designed with the dogs’ wellbeing in mind. This is one of the biggest projects we’ve ever taken on and we can’t wait to see the finished product.

Looking ahead, we’re planning to create two large secure fields within walking distance of the home, giving the dogs more space to play, train, and unwind.

🥩 Top-Quality Nutrition

A good diet is the foundation of good health. We take a holistic approach to each dog’s wellbeing, ensuring their food supports their physical and emotional recovery.

Thanks to our amazing partnership with Forthglade, every dog receives high-quality meals with varied protein sources — no more bowls of Chappie here.

📣 Spreading the Word

Every dog placed for adoption is featured on our active social media channels. We have a growing following across the UK, meaning dogs are now being adopted by families far and wide.

Although we don’t handle the rehoming process directly — that’s managed by Cardiff Dogs Home — we play a key role in helping each dog get seen and find the right match.

🛏️ Everything Else

Whether it’s a soft new bed, an extra toy, or a well fitting harness, we’re here to make every dog’s stay at the home as comfortable and stress-free as possible.

Because until they find a forever home, they deserve to feel like they already have one.
