The Rescue Hotel Health Centre

In early 2021, in conjunction with our vet Jamie Allen, we commissioned a custom built portacabin that would meet the requirements needed to run a small veterinary practice at Cardiff Dogs Home. The facility was built thanks to generous donations from Admiral, Battersea and PetPlan.

The Rescue Hotel Health Centre was designed and built to provide onsite veterinary treatment to the dogs who find themselves at Cardiff Dogs Home as a way of controlling our veterinary costs. Prior to the vet suite, dog could wait up to 7 days for a vet check. Now, there is a vet on site at least 3 days a week to see to and care for the dogs. We have also seen a massive increase in dogs coming into the Hotel with additional medical needs in the past two years, and the vet suite helps to keep our vet bills down along with ensuring the dogs are treated swiftly.

Since January 2023, The Rescue Hotel have also funded the cost of neutering all dogs rehomed from the Hotel. This helps to reduce the financial costs of taking on a rescue dog for new owners and ensures that any dogs rehomed from us, a number of which have already been used for breeding by their previous owners, can not be used for breeding again.

The facility is also available to members of the public who are struggling to access mainstream vets to provide affordable vaccinations, neutering and dental procedures. We run very successful and busy neutering and vaccination clinics for members of the public’s dogs every week, often neutering over 20 dogs a week and vaccinating around 50 every week. The Health centre has proved to be an invaluable resource for the public’s dogs from Cardiff and the surrounding area.
